MP Dunleavy, columnist for MSN Money, just published an article that ZipDebt readers may find of interest. The article is titled, “Losing at Balance-Transfer Roulette,” and it tells the story of two 25-year olds struggling with credit card debt. Both of the women whose stories are told in the article played the balance-transfer game in the hopes of keeping their credit card bills under control. As the article explains well, this strategy provided only short-term relief, and both individuals are now facing some difficult financial choices.
The author interviewed me as part of her preparation for the article, on a referral from my friend Gerri Detweiler, who is one of the few financial experts out there that understands debt settlement. Towards the end of the article, there are several quotes from yours truly.
It’s great to see a financial writer discussing debt settlement in positive terms. Too often, credit counseling is represented as the only choice for consumers seeking financial relief or assistance. Both techniques have their place, but debt settlement is usually never mentioned or discussed only in negative terms. It would be nice to see more articles like this one, that discuss a range of options instead of adopting the standard one-size-fits-all financial advice.
